Spooky Nook Champion Hill Sports Complex
Construction is currently underway on a massive Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Hamilton, Ohio, which will be the largest indoor sports complex in North America upon its completion in 2021. The $144-million economic stimulus project aims to encourage new businesses to open their doors in Hamilton and across Butler County and is expected to have a positive impact on the greater Cincinnati area as a whole by creating 465 full and part-time jobs. Another 150 full-and part-time jobs will be created by restaurants, shops and other businesses that will fill the more than 10,000 square feet of space available for lease within the complex.
The project includes converting an old Champion Mill Paper Factory building into two main areas: Mill 1 will house the majority of the indoor sports surfaces courts and fields for soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and field hockey while Mill 2 will house a 225-room hotel and the area’s second largest convention center.
With a $4 million budget, Level-1 Global Solutions and BCL IT Consulting Joint Venture (Level-1+BCL JV) delivered the IT, wireless, A/V and Security design for the new Spooky Nook Sports Facility and Hotel through the Construction Management At Risk (CMR) method, an innovative approach to construction project delivery that involves working during the initial planning/pre-construction phases within a defined schedule at a fixed price. This makes it possible to assess and meet project specifications and requirements prior to bid rather than right before construction begins.
Level-1+BCL JV worked closely with Spooky Nook to identify their specific needs for multi-use spaces and provided IT Infrastructure and A/V equipment solutions, incorporating customized design elements to follow their standards. Level-1+BCL JV also conferred with Spooky Nook’s IT department on the locations of the tech closets and connected temporary spaces to the existing network. This project was completed with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software in collaboration with the architect.
Level-1+BCL JV’s design solution offers high density, high capacity wireless coverage and IT infrastructure to support the new seating’s IT usage for the next 10 years and A/V to meet the needs of the facilities and security to ensure quality coverage and safe operations.
